Maasai Ambassador "John" Nemarrau Ole Tome
Maasai Cultural Lecturer and Activist
Ole Tome is a Cultural Ambassador for the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. The Maasai is one of the last remaining traditional tribes in Kenya, East Africa. Ole tome worked for many years at the Fig Tree Camp and Keekorok Lodge on the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya where, as head of guest relations, has spoke about his tribe's culture, directed dance demonstrations by Maasai warrior groups, and guided safaris where he has met many world travelers. Ole Tome has lectured extensively in the U.S. and worldwide. He is currently working towards the development of a school for the Maasai children so that they can preserve and educate the world about their traditions and culture. He also hopes to enable them to be competitive in today's global society.
During his presentation followed by a question and answer period, Ole Tome will discuss the culture, history, music, stories, etc. of the Maasai people. He will share his personal life experiences that he has had growing up in Kenya and share some of his views on what he has encountered from his worldwide travels and introductions to Western society. He will focus on the need for the preservation of the Maasai's way of life and in doing so will present his program dressed in his native attire.
